8:30am – 11:30am: Putting the Pieces Together - Crafting Your Event Health & Safety Program
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the responsibility for keeping your people and events safe? You may already have some of the pieces to get started. By harnessing skills you already use to present events, you will learn how to figure out what you need, what you’ve got, and where to start. This session will help you focus your efforts and tackle occupational health and safety with confidence.

1:00pm – 4:00pm: Shade of Risk
In the world of event planning and management, risk is everywhere and with so many variables and moving pieces it’s hard to see where all of your vulnerabilities lie. Kevin specializes in predicting, managing and reigning in the unpredictable risks that can unfold in an instant in the event field. From small scale soccer games to specialty off-the-grid events and all the way up to renowned multi-day music festivals with tens of thousands of spectators, he and his team have tackled it all.
Janet Sellery is one of Canada’s leading experts in health and safety and the arts. She started her career in stage management and moved into health and safety after a critical injury involving an actor. Janet pioneered the health and safety program at the Stratford Festival, Canada’s largest repertory theatre, and one of her favorite projects was working as the Health & Safety Manager for the Opening, Closing and Victory Ceremonies at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. Prior to her work as Chair, Event Safety Alliance Canada (www.esacanada.ca), Janet was a co-founder of the Canadian Event Safety Summit (2016-2018). She is a member of the Event Safety Alliance (U.S.) Advisory Council.
